One of the best things about living in Melbourne is the art galleries and exhibitions we have access to, so on my birthday I decided to check out the current 'Collecting Comme' exhibition at the NGV.
Growing up I was always inspired by many of the Japanese fashion designers, so I was excited to see this exhibition which features more than fifty samples from Takamasa Takahashi's archive of Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons and designs of her proteges Junya Watanabe and Tao Kurihara.
I was always fascinated by the unusual proportions created by Kawakubo, how she challenges the norms of beauty and the human form, deconstruction detailing and her ability to truly create sculpture through fashion.
I thoroughly enjoyed this exhibition but it was equally as fun observing the people who were attending it too; so many well-dressed and eclectic individuals.
I will admit I also had a few people comment admiring my Berger Shirt which I was wearing from our AW20 collection, currently in stores now.
So if you get a chance, make sure you get to see this free exhibit. It is a must-see if you have an appreciation for contemporary fashion design.
Once you have finished being inspired by this exhibition, pop into the flagship Et Al store on Flinders Lane.

I love the manipulation of fabric through folding and pleating.
I love this piece so much, I actually bought a plain black version from Madam Virtue & Co on Crossley Street a few years ago.
Beautiful sculptural elements creating obscure shapes with padding. Love!

Everyone who knows me knows how much I love interesting shaped hats and I absolutely loved this one from AW09/10 collection.
