I have been going to Becco for over 20 years and it started as one of our favourite places to go for date night on Wednesdays.
Our family has celebrated many Birthdays, Anniversaries and Work functions there, and my son who just had his 20th birthday dinner last week chose Becco continuing our family tradition.
Located on the cool laneway of Crossley Street, remembered by many as Pellegrini's Tavola Freddo Cantina, Becco is easily accessible in the Melbourne CBD in close proximity to our Flinders Lane store.
Becco is the type of restaurant that you know you will always be greeted warmly. After so many years visiting Simon Harley and his team, I always receive a cheeky joke upon arrival which sets the tone for a great night, and I have a drink in my hand before I can say 'Aperol please?'.
The staff are professional and attentive whilst the food is consistently great and there is no pretense here, just great, honest and authentic Italian food.
The exceptional wine list consists of fine drops from local and Italian wineries and Simon sources the ingredients from the Queen Victoria Market and Victorian farms.
If you and your friends like sharing dishes, I often start with my favourite dishes; the delicious Fried Calamari, Beef Carpaccio.
You can't say no to the Italian classic Veal Saltimbocca and then of course there are the moreish Pasta dishes.
